The Icebreaker basketball tournament started in 1997 in Lafayette,
CO with 11 boys teams. Girls divisions were eventually added a few years later to accommodate the growing need for girl's
competition. Various local middle and high schools through out the Boulder Valley School District were used to host the games.
In the past five years the numbers of teams have increased to over 80 teams each year. The Gold Crown Field House opened its
doors in November 2003 and the Icebreaker basketball tournament was the first major public event held in that complex.
Now, the tournament continues to grow
in popularity and in numbers as we extended the event to four days so as to accommodate the many teams. This past year 86
boys and girls teams throughout the Denver metro and Front Range have chosen this tournament as an "ice breaker"
to their upcoming winter basketball season. Today, we now have both boys and girls divisions 5th through 8th grades and expects
nearly 100 teams this year.
If your team is interested in participating in
the 2007 tournament, a registration form can be printed under the "Registration" menu for your convenience. Please
note that our tournament sells out every year so register early to secure your team a spot.
We appreciate your visit and we hope to see your team at our annual tournament!
Best of luck to everyone in their upcoming season!
